Talking to Andreas Christoffersen and Emil Steglich-Petersen it sounded like there is a group of Republicans who have heard about Arduino and Physical Computing, and who are interested in learning more about it and how to use it.
Having worked with Arduino quite a bit over the last couple of years, we decided to throw a workshop spread over 3 days this summer/fall, as an introduction and a primer in the subject.
The first workshop will be held the 7th of September at 17:00 @ Republikken, where participants will get a thorough introduction to the Arduinomicrocontroller board and an explanation on how it is programmed. Various sensors and output devices (LEDs, speakers, motors) will be explained, and coding examples presented.
The next two workshops (most likely in end September start Oktober) will incorporate interaction with more advanced devices (LCDs, Stepper motors, rotary encoders, etc.) and will focus on the participants’ own projects.
Since it is definitely easiest to learn something like this by working towards an motivating goal, participants are encouraged to each bring an idea for a project that they think would be interesting to make. We will then discuss them at the first workshop and guide each participant towards the information needed to complete the project.
The price for the workshop will be 100kr per person per day (each 3 hours).Additionally there will be a one time expense of 500kr for an Arduino board and a proper starter-kit with a prototyping board, a range of sensors (thermo, light, tilt), resistors, diode, optocoupler – the works. You can see the starter-kit in the attached pdf.Eager participants can order their own Arduino board from Danish supplier www.mememaker.com in Århus, and get started straight away for 200kr, excl. the starter-kit.
Registration for the workshop is done by sending an email to jakob.bak@gmail.com, sunday the 31st of August at noon the latest.Payment details will be arranged shortly, but expect to transfer the 500 kr (Arduino board and starter-kit) by that sunday as well.
The workshop will be limited to 10 participants, to make it possible to discuss everybody’s ideas.
See www.arduino.cc for info and intro to the concept, and http://www.arduino.cc/playground/Projects/ArduinoUsers for inspiration
Hope you will join.
