We made Christmas ornaments in a slightly different way, together with the FabCafe, a cool café in Tokyo.  The unique point of this project was that we decided exchange the presents via data ONLY.

Today, we are thrilled to announce who won the popular vote!  Also, I am going to share with you how the project went…

FabCafe in Tokyo

Through two weeks of this project, we exchanged 14 unique ornaments. Some created beautiful angel and snow motifs . Some used Japanese character “hiragana”  in his ornament design. All the works were super unique and sophisticated!  Variety of creators, from architecture, designer to student joined this event.  We’d like to express big thank you to all who participated!  Thank you so much!

So, it is time to announce the winners!!  As a results of  the Facebook vote, two ornaments were selected! From Copenhagen, ”Christmas grenade by Nicolas (left)” and from Tokyo, “Snow& star by Megumi Minagawa (right)” won the popular vote. Congratulations!!!

To tell the truth, exchanging data per day was harder than we expected it’d be. “Data gifts” also require time, effort and LOVE,  just like the normal present. 

The time difference (8 hours) was also something that we had to think about.  We often changed theses data midnight or early morning.  There were also a several data accidents but the only thing we would say was it has given us  amazing experience.

However, regardless the long  distance, we managed to share our idea and create the same things together, and  it made us feel that we are actually witnessing  the future of manufacturing and making. We felt that the world is getting closer and closer through our creativity. Republikken will keep trying toward the new fabrication possibility!

Why don’t you take part in a new form of exchange of present in which physical objects do not move?

Christmas tree has just come to the FabCafe in Shibuya, Tokyo. When the tree comes, it’s time to decorate it with ornaments! In FabCafe, we make ornaments in a slightly different way, together with the Republikken, the workspace made for creative people in Copenhagen, Denmark.

How do we decorate the tree?

We decorate the tree by exchanging designs created by the creators in Copenhagen and Tokyo. It sounds exciting, doesn’t it?

Are you assuming that we send the ornaments by mail or using reindeer?!  The answer is No!  We’ll give post mans and Santa Claus holiday, and the exchange between Copenhagen and Tokyo is being done with “data” only. There is no mail and no reindeer at all.
Here’s how it goes:

1. Creative people located at Republikken and FabCafe create Christmas ornament data to send to one another.

2. Ornament data is sent by email from Republikken to FabCafe on one day, sent from FabCafe to Republikken on the next day, and so forth, on alternating days.

3. Using the received data, FabCafe and Republikken use their own laser cutters to create ornaments from paper, acrylic, or other materials.

4. Ornaments designed by creative people at FabCafe are hung onto the Christmas tree at Republikken, and ornaments designed by creative people at Republikken are hung on the tree at FabCafe.

Come and join us! Let’s hang your ornament on the tree in Copenhagen!

Participation：

At FabCafe, the laser cutter will be opened for this project between the hours of 17:00 and 18:00 during the project dates noted above.
People who want to send Christmas ornaments to Copenhagen should make ornament data and then bring it to FabCafe! (The material fee is only 500 yen, and the Fab ticket is free)

The ornament exchange will include daily updates on Facebook . Collected created pieces will be added to our page on here on Loftwork.com every day, too!

Betahaus is a coworking space. You can work there from Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm. If you book the 24/7 extra even at nights and on the weekends.

The space functions as a combination of a Vienna-style coffeehouse, a library, a home office or a university campus. It combines the best aspects of these locations. Since January 2009, betahaus is operating in a formerly state-owned space on Prinzessinnenstraße, close to Moritzplatz in the heart of Berlin-Kreuzberg. betahaus offers areas for quiet and concentrated work, as well as plenty of communicative space where you can make a phone call, or simply think loud.

Moreover betahaus has 6 separate meeting rooms, a large eventspace and a very nice café on the ground floor for relaxed entertainment. The coworking space is about 1500 square metres. Of course, betahaus provides access to printers, scanners, VOIP services, and free wi-fi, moreover a lot of office hours, a big work shop, yoga classes, concerts and much more.

Der er fløjtet timeout, og folk er gået på sommerferie, og hvorfor ikke bruge tiden til at få realiseret nogle af de idéer, der ikke er tid til at få lavet i hverdagen.

I Republikkens prototypeværksted har du mulighed for hurtigt at komme fra idé til produkt. Som medlem af Værkstedsklubben kan du få gratis certificeringer, deltage i testdage og minutdage, samt få 25 % rabat på leje af maskiner.

Maskinerne
I prototypeværkstedet finder du laserskærere (810×450 mm), en Shopbot fuldplade CNC-fræser, 3D-printer (Makerbot), bredformatsprinter (1067 mm), folieskærer, skumskærer.

Salg af materialer: Krydsfiner, akryl, HDF, MDF, pap og skum.

Der er ikke grænser for, hvad du kan lave Republikkens værksted.
Jacob Bue har på smukkeste vis kombineret på teknologi, kreativitet og pædagogik, når hans røde kugle suser af sted på den unikke bane ved Utterslev Torv.

I morgen den 29. juni fra kl. 17-23 runder vi ugen af med en enkelt eller to i baren.

Vi brygger pt. videre på indhold, så mere info er på vej, men det skal nok blive vådt, hyggeligt og underholdende.
