This Thursday at Community Breakfast, we got to know Silas, one of the newest faces at the Republikken Front Desk.
Silas is 20 years old and finished gymnasium last year. Since then, life has moved quickly. He worked at a burger restaurant, spent time at højskole playing music and making new friends, moved into his own apartment with a roommate, and started his new job at Republikken the very next day.
So as he said himself, everything feels very new right now.
A New Beginning at the Front Desk
Starting a new job can be a lot. Starting a new job right after moving out for the first time is even more.
Luckily, Silas has already found his way into the rhythm of the house, helped along by Emilia’s many Front Desk notes and guides. And while the Front Desk itself is new to him, Republikken is not.
In fact, for Silas, being here is also a kind of return.
His dad used to have an office at Republikken many years ago, and Silas remembers coming here as a child. Back then, the house felt much bigger, and the foosball table was so tall that he could not even see over it.
Now he can not only see over it. He can play it too.
A House With Old Memories
One of the most charming parts of Silas’ story was hearing how Republikken has been part of his life long before he started working here.
As a child, he would sometimes come here with his dad. He remembers the space, the people, and the creative atmosphere around the house.
He also remembers being introduced to board games and miniature games through people connected to Republikken. One of those games, X-Wing, became a big part of his life. He played with his dad, joined tournaments, travelled to Poland for the European Championship, and at one point became the number one ranked player in Denmark.
That passion for games, strategy, miniatures, and creativity is still very much part of him today.
Music, Creativity and Finding His Own Way
Another big part of Silas’ story is music.
He started playing guitar during gymnasium, and music quickly became a way to meet people, create something of his own, and find a new kind of confidence.
Since then, he has played in several bands, started writing his own songs, shifted between guitar, singing, drums, and recording, and is now working on releasing music with his band Kalopsia.
His inspiration comes from heavier rock, including bands like Queens of the Stone Age and Soundgarden. And while the music is still taking shape, the ambition and curiosity are clearly there.
Why It Matters
Silas’ story was not only about starting a new job.
It was about returning to a place that already holds memories. About growing up, moving out, trying new things, and finding your own way through music, games, work, and community.
It was also a reminder that people often arrive at Republikken with more connections to the house than we first realise. Some come here for the first time. Others come back years later and see the same rooms from a completely new perspective.
